Yanqing is a standard 5★ Ice Hunt damage dealer built around Soulsteel Sync, a buff from his Skill that grants CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG and a chance to launch follow-up attacks that can Freeze. His Ultimate adds a huge CRIT boost before a single-target strike. The catch: any damage to his HP removes Soulsteel Sync, so he needs a shielder, and today he remains a niche single-target pick.

Hypercarry

Sunday's buffs and action advance and Tingyun's Energy speed up his rotation, while Aventurine's frequent shields keep Soulsteel Sync up.

Standard banner

Built around standard 5★ characters: Bronya's Skill advances and cleanses him, Pela lowers enemy DEF, and Gepard's shields protect Soulsteel Sync.

Free team

Game8's budget pick: Yukong boosts his ATK and CRIT, the Trailblazer (Preservation) shields him to keep Soulsteel Sync up, and Lynx heals.

Guide

How to play

How he works

  • Soulsteel Sync (Skill). Darting Ironthorn activates Soulsteel Sync for 1 turn: +20% CRIT Rate, +30% CRIT DMG, a lower chance of being targeted, and a 60% fixed chance to follow up each attack with a 50% ATK hit that has a 65% base chance to Freeze. Any damage to his HP removes it.
  • Amidst the Raining Bliss (Ultimate, 140 Energy). +60% CRIT Rate — and an extra +50% CRIT DMG if Soulsteel Sync is active — for 1 turn, then a 350% ATK strike on one enemy.
  • Traces. Icing on the Kick (A2) adds 30% ATK of Ice Additional DMG after each attack on an Ice-weak enemy; Gentle Blade (A6) grants +10% SPD for 2 turns after a CRIT hit; Frost Favors the Brave (A4) adds 20% Effect RES during Soulsteel Sync.

Rotation

  1. Use his Technique before combat: +30% DMG for 2 turns against enemies at 50% HP or more.
  2. Open with his Skill to activate Soulsteel Sync, then keep using it every turn so the buff never lapses.
  3. Only use his Ultimate while Soulsteel Sync is active, to get the extra 50% CRIT DMG.

Tips

  • Shields are mandatory in endgame: only damage to his actual HP bar removes Soulsteel Sync. Aventurine and Gepard are his best sustains.
  • His kit adds up to 80% CRIT Rate, so about 20% CRIT Rate on his character screen is enough — put everything else into CRIT DMG, ATK and SPD.
  • If crowd control makes him skip a turn, Soulsteel Sync runs out: Bronya's Skill cleanses him while advancing his turn.
  • He uses his Skill every turn and his Ultimate costs 140 Energy, so Skill Point and Energy support such as Tingyun matter.

Strengths

  • Big free CRIT stats from his Talent and Ultimate
  • Follow-up attacks with a chance to Freeze
  • Excels against Ice-weak enemies thanks to his A2
  • Standard 5★: his Eidolons come naturally over time

Weaknesses

  • Strictly single-target
  • Loses Soulsteel Sync on any HP damage, so he needs a shielder
  • Expensive 140-Energy Ultimate and heavy Skill Point usage
  • His CRIT Rate overcaps easily, wasting stats
  • Rated in Prydwen's lowest tier (T5) in every endgame mode
