Astra Yao is an S-Rank Ether Support from the Stars of Lyra and one of the best generalist buffers in the game. She casts her Special once to enter Idyllic Cadenza, then stays off-field while granting the squad DMG, CRIT DMG, up to 1,200 flat ATK, on-demand Quick Assists, healing and extra Chain Attacks. Game8 ranks her Tier 0, Prydwen T0.5, and she still appears in many of the top Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault teams.

Elegant Vanity BiS
S · ATK%
Her signature: ATK% main stat to reach the ATK cap, 5 Energy each time someone switches in (constant with her kit), and up to +20% squad DMG. Her best option, but not a must.
Gains 5 Energy when an agent enters via Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive or Evasive Assist; spending 25+ Energy gives the squad +10% DMG for 20s, up to 2 stacks.
Kaboom the Cannon
A · Energy Regen
Lucy's A-Rank W-Engine at P5, Game8's second pick and used by almost a third of her players: Energy Regen main stat and a squad ATK buff kept up by everyone's hits.
Each squad member landing a hit grants the whole squad ATK +2.5% for 8s, up to 4 stacks.
Bashful Demon
A · ATK%
Soukaku's A-Rank W-Engine at P5, Prydwen's second pick: ATK% main stat, and her Tremolos stack its squad ATK buff easily.
Ice DMG +15%; EX Special Attacks give the squad ATK +2% for 12s, up to 4 stacks.
The Vault
A · Energy Regen
Nicole's A-Rank W-Engine: Energy Regen and a 15% DMG taken debuff, but its 2s windows need careful timing.
Ether DMG from EX Specials, Chain Attacks or Ultimates makes the target take 15% more DMG from all units and boosts the wielder's Energy Regen.

  • ATK 3,430+ to max her Core Passive (+1,200 ATK for the squad)

Reaching the ATK threshold matters more than anything else: use your W-Engine, disc main stats and substats to get there before investing in Energy Regen.

Teams

Recommended teams

Electric: Cissia & Seed

Astra's most used team in both current Shiyu Defense (3.6%) and Deadly Assault (3.2%). Seed buffs Cissia and the pair alternate through Astra's Quick Assists. Bangboo: Snap, whose Superstar DMG buff triggers on Quick Assists.

Ye Shunguang & Zhao

Her second most used team. Ye Shunguang takes the field while Astra and Zhao buff from off-field. Bangboo: Sprout, which gains up to +60% DMG with Ye Shunguang and summons a Sword if its Active Skill is used during Ether Veil: Verdict.

Stars of Lyra: Evelyn & Dialyn

Her signature pairing: her Ultimate turns Quick Assists into Evelyn's powerful Chain Attacks, and Dialyn extends the Stun to fit them all. Bangboo: Snap, which also heals with two Stars of Lyra Agents.

Guide

How to play

Idyllic Cadenza

  • Her Special Attack (she has no EX version) makes her enter Idyllic Cadenza and triggers a Quick Assist. In this state she stays on the field, invulnerable, even after you switch out, and the whole squad gets +20% DMG and +25% CRIT DMG (at skill level 12).
  • Every 25 Energy is one Chord. While she has Chords, the active Agent's hits trigger a Quick Assist to your other Agent (once every 3s, or every 1s with heavy attacks).
  • Precise Assist: a Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive or Evasive Assist while she has a Chord spends it for a Tremolo and 3 Tone Clusters, doubled by her Additional Ability (an Attack, Anomaly or Rupture teammate).
  • Core Passive: the Agent who switches in this way, and Astra herself, gain ATK equal to 35% of her ATK (1,200 max) for 20s, extendable to 30s.

Ultimate

  • Heals the whole squad, and the next two Quick Assists become Chain Attacks. Great for Chain-heavy damage dealers like Evelyn and for Stun combos.
  • Advanced: after her Ultimate, leave Cadenza (hold Basic Attack for Finale), take the Quick Assist into your DPS's Chain Attack, then swap back to recast her Special for the second one.

Tips

  • Put her right before your main DPS in the squad order so her Quick Assists land on them.
  • Watch her Energy when your DPS stays on the field for a long time: with no Chords left, there are no more Quick Assists and the ATK buff can drop mid-Stun.
  • Her own Decibel generation is poor; Basic Attack: Finale lets her take Evasive Assists to build some, then re-enter Cadenza right away.

Strengths

  • Works in almost every team: Attack, Anomaly and Rupture.
  • Huge buff package: DMG, CRIT DMG, flat ATK, Quick Assists and extra Chain Attacks.
  • Heals the team while needing almost no field time.
  • Her signature is a luxury: A-Rank W-Engines come close.

Weaknesses

  • Needs about 3,430 ATK to max her Core Passive buff at M0.
  • Effectively locks you into a two-active-Agent playstyle.
  • Very low personal Decibel and Anomaly buildup.
