Genshin Impact 7.2: "The Grand Defense" event gives a free 4★ character of your choice
HoYoverse presented "The Grand Defense: Defy the Unjust Judgment", the main event of Version 7.2 "Hour of Ruin" (live on November 4, 2026). The Nails of Retribution stir and the Holy Soil spreads across Teyvat: the nations join forces on three fronts (Northern, Central and Eastern Combat Zones) and the Traveler fights alongside familiar companions.
When and how to unlock it
- Duration: available throughout Version 7.2. The official 7.2 event calendar lists it from November 4 to December 16, with 920 Primogems among its rewards (exact times will be in the in-game notice).
- Unlock: the event opens as you progress through Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act VI "A Yesterday Sent From Beyond". HoYoverse recommends pacing the event alongside the Archon Quest; if you want to play the event content first, use Quick Start on the event page.
- Gameplay shown in the overview: directing squads to complete various missions, fighting for air supremacy, relaying intelligence, locating and rescuing the wounded. Talk to your companions across Teyvat (Fontaine, Liyue, Nod-Krai…) to learn about the battlefield and team up against powerful enemies.
Rewards: a free 4★ character
Take part in the relief operations to reduce the Holy Soil threat. Once it drops to a certain level, you can invite one 4★ character of your choice. The official image shows these eight:
Amber, Xiangling, Thoma, Collei, Lynette, Kachina, Aino and Alyosha.
The operations also give Primogems, a Crown of Insight and Character Talent Materials (quantities not stated).
Take the character you're missing who fits your teams best: check their build pages on HoyoBuild before choosing. The Crown of Insight is rare: keep it for a main DPS or a key support's talent.
