Von Lycaon is an Ice Stun Agent who pairs strong Daze with big debuffs: -25% Ice RES on the target and +35% Stun DMG Multiplier when he hits a Stunned enemy. Since his Potential Awakening, his Encircle Prey state lets him keep attacking and building Daze alongside your on-field Agent. He's one of the best Stunners for Ice teams (Yidhari, Sigrid, Miyabi, Ellen, Hugo), and he's on the standard banner.

W-Engines

Blazing Laurel BiS
S · Impact
Best in Ice and Fire teams (Prydwen): lots of Impact after Quick or Perfect Assists, and Wilt stacks that raise the squad's Ice and Fire CRIT DMG. Encircle Prey's Basic Attacks help keep Wilt up.
Quick or Perfect Assists grant Impact +25% for 8s; Basic Attacks apply Wilt (up to 20 stacks), each stack raising the squad's Ice and Fire CRIT DMG against the target by 1.5%.
Ice-Jade Teapot
S · Impact
Icy Veins's best generalist pick: Encircle Prey lets him stack its Basic Attack buff from off-field, for a near-permanent +20% squad DMG.
Basic Attack hits stack Impact +0.7% for 8s (up to 30); at 15+ stacks, the squad gains +20% DMG for 10s.
Precious Fossilized Core
A · Impact
Craftable, with lots of Daze on healthy targets: excellent in short fights like Shiyu Defense.
Daze +10% against targets above 50% HP, and +20% above 75% HP.
Steam Oven
A · Energy Regen
Best non-limited option in long fights: the Energy Regen main stat fuels more EX Specials, his main source of Daze and King of the Summit uptime.
Every 10 Energy accumulated grants Impact +2% (up to 8 stacks), kept for 8s after the Energy is spent.
Hellfire Gears
S · Impact
Good Impact from his cheap EX Specials, but Encircle Prey counts as being on-field, so its off-field Energy Regen does less.
Off-field Energy Regen +0.6/s; each EX Special Attack grants Impact +10% for 10s, up to 2 stacks.
The Restrained
S · Impact
His signature. Game8 still ranks it first, but Prydwen advises against it: its bonus only covers Basic Attacks, while most of his Daze comes from Assists and EX Specials.
Hits stack Basic Attack DMG and Daze +6% for 8s, up to 5 times.

Teams

Recommended teams

Rupture: Yidhari & Lucia

One of his most used teams in both the current Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault (his top teams are Hugo & Lighter in Shiyu Defense and Claret & Rina in Deadly Assault). Yidhari loves field time, and Lycaon's quick-swap playstyle and unsaturated buffs suit her perfectly. Bangboo: Sharkboo (two Ice Agents).

Sigrid & Rina

Two standard S-Ranks behind a top-tier Ice DPS. Lycaon's Ice buffs are strong, and he shares a faction with Rina, which activates her Additional Ability. Bangboo: Butler (two Victoria Housekeeping Agents) or Ultra Jake.

Accessible: Miyabi & Soukaku

Soukaku and Lycaon amplify each other's Ice buffs and Soukaku adds lots of Ice Anomaly. Also works with Ellen as the DPS. Bangboo: Sharkboo.

Guide

How to play

His debuffs

  • His EX Special and both Assist Follow-Ups reduce the target's Ice RES by 25% and make it take 30% more DMG from other attributes, for 30s.
  • Additional Ability (Anomaly Agent, same Attribute or same Faction): when Lycaon hits a Stunned enemy, its Stun DMG Multiplier rises by 35%. Try to land the Stun with Lycaon himself (ideally with his EX Special): the buff then applies from the very start of the Stun.

Encircle Prey

  • He starts each fight with one charge, and gets another whenever an Elite or Boss is Stunned.
  • After a Defensive Assist, hold Basic Attack for Assist Follow-Up: Vengeful Counterattack - Glacial Waltz. It calls in the previous Agent with a Quick Assist, and Lycaon enters Encircle Prey for 8s.
  • While it lasts, he copies the active Agent: Basic Attacks and EX Specials make him perform his charged Basic hits 1–3, and Dodges and Dodge Counters make him dodge and counter too. These attacks deal DMG and Daze only (no Anomaly Buildup).
  • When the state ends, he automatically casts Glacial Waltz again. A Chain Attack, an Ultimate or stopping your attacks ends it early (with bonus Daze for the time left).

Rotation

  1. Parry with Lycaon, hold Basic for Glacial Waltz, then let your DPS play while he follows along.
  2. Use his EX Special for Daze and to refresh the debuff (a short press is more Energy-efficient than a full charge).
  3. Near the Stun threshold, make sure Lycaon lands the Stun (EX Special or Ultimate, one of the highest Daze skills in the game).

He only uses 1 Assist Point per Defensive Assist against Elites and Bosses, so you can parry with him often.

Strengths

  • Huge value for Ice teams: -25% Ice RES, +30% DMG taken from other attributes and +35% Stun DMG Multiplier.
  • Strong Daze with cheap EX Specials, which makes King of the Summit easy to keep up.
  • Needs little field time thanks to Encircle Prey.
  • Standard S-Rank that works well with many W-Engines, including craftable ones.

Weaknesses

  • Much weaker outside of Ice teams (or teams that activate his Additional Ability).
  • Wants to land the Stun himself so his Stun DMG Multiplier buff covers the whole Stun window.
  • No extra tricks like Ultimate conversions, Decibel bonuses or Stun extensions.
  • His signature W-Engine, The Restrained, is a poor fit since his Potential Awakening.
